Choosing a study plan

How to choose between a Book plan, a Pathway plan, or no plan.

A Study Plan answers one practical question: what should I study next? You can choose a Book plan, a Pathway plan, or no plan.

You can change your choice later. Switching plans does not delete saved words, review history, bookmarks, or flags.

Choose a Study Plan when you want Wise Arabic to suggest the next source to continue.

Choose a Book plan if you are following a textbook

A Book plan is the best choice when you already study from a published series and want Wise Arabic to follow that order.

Use a Book plan if:

  • you are working through Madinah Arabic, Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk, or Lisan al-Qur'an;
  • your teacher, class, or personal study already follows chapters;
  • you want vocabulary to match the textbook open in front of you.

The dashboard will point you toward the next chapter to continue. You can still add words from other places whenever they are useful.

Choose a Pathway plan if you want goal-based structure

A Pathway is an ordered sequence of collections around an aim, such as general vocabulary, media, medicine, Islamic studies, or business.

Use a Pathway if:

  • you are not following a textbook;
  • you want a clear order without designing your own syllabus;
  • you have a domain you are building toward;
  • you prefer collections chosen around learner goals rather than textbook chapters.

Every first Pathway begins with the same broad foundational vocabulary before moving into specialised material. That means you can choose a specialist Pathway from day one without being dropped straight into narrow terminology. Choose no plan if you prefer free browsing

No plan is a valid choice. It suits learners who want to choose vocabulary by topic, interest, reading material, or current gaps.

Use no plan if:

  • you already know exactly what you want to study each session;
  • you are filling gaps rather than following a structured path;
  • you would rather browse Collections, Categories, and Books freely.

Without a plan, the dashboard still prioritises due review. When no review is due, it will point you back toward useful exploration rather than a fixed next source.

What a plan does and does not do

A Study Plan does:

  • make the dashboard suggest the next Book chapter or Pathway collection;
  • show progress against the Book or Pathway you chose;
  • reduce the daily decision of where to add new words.

Progress along a plan is your call. You can mark a collection or chapter complete without saving every word in it, and the plan moves on.

A Study Plan does not:

  • restrict what you can browse;
  • stop you adding off-plan words;
  • remove words when you switch;
  • replace review.

Review is always based on your saved words, not on whether those words came from your plan.

A simple decision rule

  • Textbook in hand: choose Book.
  • Clear goal but no textbook: choose Pathway.
  • Strong preference for self-directed browsing: choose No plan.

If you are unsure, start with a Pathway. It gives you structure without requiring an external textbook, and you can change it later.
