Review groups

How to choose between Nouns, Verbs, Pieces, and Plurals during review.

Review groups let you choose the kind of recall you want to practise today. They do not represent separate courses or separate vocabularies. All groups draw from your saved words.

Each group shows how many reviews and how many new cards it holds today; a group with nothing available is marked "Nothing due". New-card counts follow your daily pace, so Learn and the dashboard always agree on the numbers.

Start the combined review by default; use the groups when you want targeted practice.

The combined review

The main option on the Learn page reviews everything together: nouns, verbs, pieces, and plurals in one session.

This is the recommended default. Mixing card types in one sitting forces you to switch context between words, which is a harder and more honest test than working through one type at a time. Unless you have a reason to isolate a type, start here.

Nouns

Choose Nouns when you want translation practice for nouns and adjectives.

This group helps with:

  • recognising Arabic nouns;
  • recalling Arabic from an English meaning;
  • strengthening everyday vocabulary;
  • consolidating adjectives, which Wise Arabic reviews with nouns.

Plural recall is handled separately in the Plurals group.

Verbs

Choose Verbs when you want to practise action words.

Verb cards are especially useful because they keep the past and present forms connected. If word details show a root, form, or masdar, use those clues to understand how the verb is built.

Pieces

Choose Pieces for particles, prepositions, fixed phrases, and other functional expressions.

Pieces are often short, but they carry grammar and sentence meaning. Do not treat them like ordinary nouns or verbs.

Learn pieces as whole usable units, not as isolated English glosses.

Plurals

Choose Plurals when you want to practise singular-to-plural recall for nouns.

Arabic plurals deserve separate attention because many are not predictable from the singular. If you keep missing a plural, open word details and learn the plural as part of the word, not as an afterthought.

Do you need to clear every group daily?

No. The combined review already covers every group, so clearing it clears them all.

Use the individual groups deliberately:

  1. Practise the type you are currently studying most.
  2. Use Plurals when noun plurals are becoming weak.
  3. Use Pieces when short functional words keep slipping in reading.

Review is cumulative. You do not need to make every group empty before a session counts. A word reviewed in one group will not appear again in another group on the same review day.
